The aim of this conference is to bring together international scholars of all career stages working on topics of local public finance, fiscal federalism, interjurisdictional competition and cooperation and related topics. A major goal is to increase perspective by a broad international approach to local public finance. Both theory and empirical papers are welcome, as are researchers across a variety of fields. Potential topics might include, but are not limited to, tax competition and coordination, intergovernmental grants and transfer systems, interjurisdictional mobility, municipal mergers, education policy, zoning and regulations, bidding for firms, the effect of the digitalization, telework, and the pandemic on subnational governments, subnational business taxation, political economy, local austerity programs, and urban policy.
